Fisher's Dedication, Ingenuity, Team Work & Cost Savings for SD23
The dry mop attachment clip was held together with a rivet that loosened and broke off. Ken took the clips home, drilled an access hole which enabled the insertion of a bolt, nylon T sleeve & nylon insert nut to hold the parts together. Ken also applied an anti-slip tape to the clip. The expensive handles were once again useable rather than being discarded. The Head Custodian had 12 broken handles at a cost of $36 each. There were dozens of broken clips throughout SD23. Ken did this conversion on his own time (30 to 60 minutes per clip plus the time & gas to go to the store to buy the parts) & paid for the repair parts out of his own pocket saving the school district hundreds of dollars (see above cost estimate Ken made up at the time).
Ken took his own time to fix this discarded flashlight returning it to service.
Ken purchased this bigger bright door wedge stop as it was safer & more effective
Ken modified this coat hanger to fit over the big garbage container to clip on a plastic bag making collecting the garbage more efficient
Hoses in the different schools were often in bad shape & slipped over taps, often coming off. Spray nozzles were non existent. Workers were expected to just squeeze the end of the hose even with scalding water.Ken purchased washer hoses, brass quick connect ends & insulated spray nozzle for safety & more efficiency to speed up the job.
At WES 3 fans were being discarded because the height adjusting retainer screws were broken. On his own time Ken used resin and new bolts that he bought with his own money to fix the fans
Ken bought with his own money a small scraper for cleaning & used a film roll case to store it safely.
With his own money Ken purchase a putty knife & notched the end to effectively remove the buildup up grunge around sinks.
When the school ran out of waste basket liner bags Ken with his own money purchased scented bags
Ken took his own cable ski lock, modified it to turn it into a clip-on belt retractable key holder to save time on the job.
Ken bought rubber knobs for the ends of mop handles to cushion the impact.
During work Ken's wrist watch often caused sweating & a rash on the wrist skin, so he cut
holes in the strap to help reduce the sweating.
The school district had vacuum cleaners that were carried on the back of workers..the vacuums were called BacPacks. Ken with his own money bought an in-line skate holder/handle, modified it & fastened it to a Bacpack vacuum so it could be moved more safely & efficiently
Ken bought & placed this in the WES custodian room to help lighten & brighten the days with co-workers.
Ken made up his own name tag to help parents, staff & students identify him as a SD23 Custodian long before SD23 decided to issue official tags. Here is a photo of Ken in his Custodian blue work shirt that he purchased along with the name tag and a poppy in respect of war veterans. Ken also sewed the Canadian flag to all of his work shirts. (note Ken's Duties To Do List in the shirt pocket)
On the left is a photo of a Teacher's tattered door curtain. On his own time and at his own cost, Ken made a new more durable curtain to replace the worn curtain for the teacher at Westbank Elementary School.
To counter Principal Maeve Buckley's trash comments on Ken's Custodian Evaluations the following examples of Ken's dedication, ingenuity, team work & cost savings for SD23 are presented below.
Ken was working on the summer cleaning of Hollywood Road school portables. Cleaning the portable walls was going slowly and time was running out. On his own time at his own expense Ken modified tools to speed up the wall cleaning by using a plastic strip from a big box of Tide detergent, slipped between the sponge/abrasive pad doubling the cleaning head. He also modified another head to speed up the removal of the suds & drying of the walls. This saved SD23 hundreds of dollars & enabled completion of the cleaning on time. Westbank Principal Buckley's Custodian Evaluation report was total trash & exemplified her incompetence. Director Lownsbrough did not undertake a complete investigation as she claimed. Buckley/Lownsbrough's actions were malicious & disgraceful.

Ken modified a leather hammer/measure tape holder to hold a putty knife/razor scraper on his pant belt so he could save time not having to look for his tools when needed. Even the razor scraper was modified with a screw to make it safer to open/close.

Duties in Time Segments
Copies of Ken's original Duties To Do List which he followed each & every night checking off the items as he completed that task. Both Buckley & Lownsbrough falsely claimed that Ken failed to clean toilets & desktops. Ken was organized & efficient. Buckley often downloaded much extra duties for Ken to do above his own duties.
Ken purchased this halloween cover for the
Custodian door at WES to bring a smile to staff.
Ken came to work at SD23 every day dressed in a professional manner. He prided himself on neatness & cleanliness. He was one of the few who wore
steel toe work boots. Ken took a pair of pants cut them to make short pants, installing a zipper so he had either long or short pants. He did all the sewing himself. His work shirts were the custodian blue (with a less industrial look). Each shirt had a Canadian flag crest attached. The modified tool holder & ingenious cable ski lock adapted to hold his keys were clipped to his belt. Duties To Do List in his shirt pocket every day.

Above on Ken's Custodian Evaluation above WES Principal Buckley checked off No which is in stark contrast to the truth found in the contents of this page. Ken was extremely well organized & efficient performing his job & had very good relationships.
Ken had very good relationships with night user groups. Here is a Xmas card from one night use group thanking him for letting them into the school after hours and for always being on time. Quite the opposite to the picture that Principal Buckley's misinformation attempts to paint.
Thanks for always remembering us on time.

WES Principal Buckley checked off NI (Needs Improvement) on Ken's Custodian Evaluation. Buckley didn't have a clue regarding Ken's ingenuity, ability to grasp new concepts quickly, to apply new work methods & eagerness to learn as shown on this page. Buckley was constantly distorting & misleading. What an awful administrator indeed.
Ken enjoyed his job very much & demonstrated initiative & motivation as shown by the overwhelming proof on this page contrary to WES Principal Buckley who checked off Needs Improvement on Ken's Custodian Evaluation.

One can see below that WES Principal Buckley misinforms SD23 when she checked off Needs Improvement on Ken's Custodian Evaluation. Ken had a positive attitude towards others despite Buckley's distortions. Ken used his time very well cleaning an area 2000 sq ft over SD23's own guidelines added to by Buckley downloading even more work on Fisher.
The coating on vacuum cleaner wands often wore off exposing the aluminum surface. During use the aluminum blackened worker's hands. Ken purchased anti-slip tennis racket handle tape to wrap around the wand to prevent blackened hands... another example of Ken's ingenuity. Principal Buckley was a clueless administrator when she said that Ken was not a team player, did not demonstrate initiative or motivation.

Buckley's Custodian Evaluation is groundless & fabricated. Buckley colluded & conspired to discredit Fisher.
